Enchanted Lion Books

October is when we celebrate the work of publishers whose books we often add to our selection. This month is extra special because we are honoring the work of one of our favorite publishing houses, Enchanted Lion Books. This summer they turned 15. Ever since the release of Mao and Me in 2008, we have been following the titles published by Enchanted Lion and adding them to our schools. Happy birthday, enchanted friends, and may you bring many more meaningful books to us.

We are happy to announce that this month’s selection consists of 30 titles. The largest monthly donation to date is made possible with the help of The Pine Tree Foundation of New York, who awarded our program with a visiting-artist grant. With their help, we will be able to invite writers, illustrators, and translators to speak with the kids in both schools. In conjunction with this month’s selection, one of our first speakers will be Claudia Zoe Bedrick, a translator and founding publisher of Enchanted Lion Books.

The festivities will continue at our partnering bookshop, Bindlestiff Books, with a window display highlighting the Enchanted Lion publications. At the end of the month, on October 27, we are organizing a baklava sale, kindly hosted by Bindlestiff Books.

Stay tuned for more updates and join us in celebrating the works of so many talented artists.
