Books for Smiles began as a way to get books into the hands of children during the pandemic, when they were unable to access libraries. We partnered with the Penn Dental Bus, a mobile dental clinic, where children visiting for dental cleanings can pick up brand new, high quality books to take home and keep. The program’s success was immediately evident, and in 2022, we expanded our donations to include a new partner, Puentes de Salud, a healthcare non-profit for Latinx communities. Since 2021, A Book a Day donated 1,056 books directly to children through the two initiatives.
